What are we going to do at this lesson?

T: Right, the topic of our lesson is Theatre as Art.

Let me congratulate you, in Russia the 2019 year is declared to be

the year of Theatre. Today we are going to enlarge our knowledge of

the topic “Theatre”. We will imagine that we are students of Tyumen

State Academy of Art and Culture, we will learn more about a theatre

building, theatre genres, we will analyze why people go to the

theatre, we will try to dramatize.

First, let’s revise the words concerning a theater building. Take card

1, you can see two columns, in the first the names of theatrical

objects and places and in the second their definitions. You should

match them while watching the excursion about the Tyumen Big

Drama Theatre.

Let’s get started.

T: I hope you liked our excursion. Now you have 1 minute more to

finish your task

Now exchange your works with your partner and check with the

keys at the screen. You can see the assessment criteria there.

T: Sign and hand in your papers.

T: We have travelled about the Tyumen Drama Theatre virtually.

Let’s see who has been there in reality? Discuss the following

questions in pairs, each of you has 30 seconds! (вопросы на слайде:

Who has been to this theatre in reality? What performance have you

seen? What did you like the most about this theatre?)

You should work with your shoulder partner.

Raise your hands those who have been to the Tyumen Drama

Theatre. Great, now P will tell us what the partner has told him/her.

T: Guys, now look at the screen or take card 2, you can see the

statistics which shows the reasons why people attend theatres. Let’s

analyze them. Look through the statistics and think of the following

questions (1. What reason do you agree with? 2. What reason

surprises you, why?) Think 30 seconds. Discuss your ideas in your

team one by one. Participant 1 starts speaking.

Share with the class. What do your partners agree with? What reason

surprises you?

Judging by the statistics, people go to the theatre because there they

can enjoy performances of different genres.

Attention to the screen, please! You can see posters of what is on at

the Tyumen Theatres. Tell me what genres you see?

I think that you are a bit tired of sitting. I offer you to stand up and

move a bit. Your task is to pantomime the genre given to you without

saying any word. You will show with your team. Other teams will

guess what genre you are demonstrating. (раздать жанры)

You have 30 seconds to rehearse in a team.

Now each team has 30 seconds to show.

Thank you very much for pantomimes, they were great.

T: To pantomime a genre is not enough. We should learn more about

them. Let’s imagine that you are lecturers of Tyumen State Academy

of Culture and Art and you have to deliver a lecture about theatre

genres to your students. You will work in teams, each team is given

some information of a certain genre on card 3. Your task is to find

characteristics of the genre and introduce them logically. You may

organize your thoughts on paper, using colourful pencils to make

your idea exciting and clear.

You have 5 minutes to do this task (будут даны комедия, трагедия,

мюзикл и опера)

Time is over and we should start.

T: Dear students, welcome to the lecture devoted to theatre genres,

Our lecturers are going to share their valuable knowledge on this

topic. You should listen to them, do the task. Take card 4 and while

listening, put a plus if you agree that the feature is referred to this

genre. One more task, after each lecture, each team should ask a

question to the lecturers.

Each team will have 2 minutes to present their genre.

Team 1 – Comedy, team 2 – Tragedy, team 3 – Musical, team 4 -

Opera

Our lesson is approaching to the end. At this lesson we’ve travelled

around the Tyumen Big Drama Theatre and revised the vocabulary

concerning the theatre building. We’ve discussed the reasons why

people go to the theatre. We’ve dramatized a bit. We’ve learnt a lot

about theatre genres.

Finally, I would like you to make cinquains about a theater.
